Thirty UNL students, nearly all from TCD, and a total of 6 faculty will be traveling to China for a 12  day Textiles & Apparel study tour in May 2010. As participants in UNL's Global Gateways initiative, TCD study tour members were invited to a private session with NPR London bureau chief and former Beijing correspondent Rob Gifford, author of CHINA ROAD, the text that Global Gateways students and faculty have been reading in partial preparation for the trip. Following the April 1 reception at the Van Brunt Visitor's Center on city campus, Gifford spoke at the E. N. Thompson Forum held in the Lied Center for the Performing Arts. CHINA ROAD documents Gifford's 2004 odyssey along China's route 312 (somewhat like China's version of the famous Rt. 66), from one end of the country to the other.

Our students are getting pretty excited about the trip - many of them have never traveled outside the US, and a handful haven't traveled far beyond Nebraska's borders. They look forward to a crash course in the global dimensions of the textile and apparel industries, that will be the focus of the trip.
