North American Fashion Hubs Study Tour

Overview:

New York City and Montreal are among North America’s largest fashion hubs. We’ll begin on location in New York City’s Garment District, with site visits to showrooms and buying offices where you’ll be getting insider perspectives from fashion industry experts. Next, we hop on the train to Montreal, viewing some of upstate New York’s most picturesque spots, including the Adirondack Mountains and Lake Champlain. We arrive in Montreal’s centre ville (downtown), known for its eclectic and innovative style. In between industry site visits, we’ll talk shop with university students and visit the largest collection of clothing and textiles in Canada. We’ll enjoy the beauty of Mount Royal Park, eat in restaurants of the picturesque Old Port of Montreal, and shop like a local in the open air Marche Jean-Talon and boutiques of the artsy Mile End district.

 This study tour has two options:

  • NYC + Montreal (3 credits)
  • NYC Only (2 credits)

 Students who are attending the NYC + Montreal study tour will register for TMFD 492/892 (3 credits) during priority registration for Summer Semester 2020.

 Students who are attending only the NYC portion of the study tour will register for TMFD 493/893 (2 credits) during priority registration for Summer Semester 2020.

NYC + Montreal At-A-Glance Tour Information

Tour Dates: June 6 – June 19

Total Tour Cost: $3,810+ tuition and fees for 3 credits (Summer 2020 session)

Tour Cost Includes:

  • Appointments with industry professionals representing various facets of the industry
  • VIP tour of Dior exhibition at the McCord Museum
  • Three course meal at the Old Port in Montreal
  • Picnic lunch at Mount Royal Park
  • Visit to the world famous Metropolitan Museum of Art
  • Guided tour of visual displays along 5th Avenue
  • Admission to a Broadway musical
  • Hotel accommodations (continental breakfast included)
  • Airport transfers
  • Public transportation in NYC and Montreal

Payments:

$2,300 non-refundable payment due January 31.  Pay via check to the CEHS Business Office (HSB 123) or by credit card through online registration form.

$500 non-refundable payment due January 31 to Education Abroad Office (via MyWorld; https://myworld.unl.edu/)

$1,010 final payment due on deadline for summer tuition

Montreal is the world's largest French-speaking city outside of Paris. It is also home to the third largest fashion hub in North America - known for its eclectic and innovative style. We will explore the local fashion and textile industry with expert hosts at the top design showrooms, buying offices, and retail spaces in the city, and sample local culture and cuisine along the way. Students will also talk shop with their peers at McGill University and the Université de Quebec a Montreal - Ecole Supérieure de Mode and visit the largest collection of clothing and textiles in Canada at the McCord Museum. In between industry site visits, students will enjoy the beauty of Mount Royal Park, eat in restaurants of the picturesque Old Port of Montreal, and shop like a local in the open air Marche Jean-Talon and boutiques of the artsy Mile End district. 

NYC Only At-A-Glance Tour Information

Tour Dates: June 6 – June 13

Total Tour Cost: $2,300 + tuition and fees for 2 credits (Summer 2020 session)

 Tour Cost Includes:

  • Appointments with industry professionals representing various facets of the industry
  • Visit to the world famous Metropolitan Museum of Art
  • Guided tour of visual displays along 5th Avenue
  • Admission to a Broadway musical
  • Hotel accommodations (continental breakfast included)
  • Airport transfers
  • Metrocard in NYC

Payments:

$2,300 non-refundable payment due January 31.  Pay via check to the CEHS Business Office (HSB 123) or by credit card through online registration form.

Experience the culture, learn about the industry, and see the sights of one of the fashion capitals of the world, New York City.  Gain insight into the complexities of the fashion and textile industry from an insider’s point of view as experts in the field share their knowledge of design, sourcing, product development, and fashion communications.  Experience the global marketplace that includes Madison Avenue, Fifth Avenue, Soho, and Chelsea.  On location in the Garment District, we will tour showrooms and buying offices while interacting with fashion industry professionals.  We will also network with PAC and University of Nebraska-Lincoln alumni, who can provide additional insight into the industry. 

Administrative Information:

The NYC + Montreal Study tour will have a minimum of 16 students and has a maximum capacity of 20 students.
