Office of Qualitative and Mixed Methods Research

Home

The Office of Qualitative and Mixed Methods Research (OQMMR) was founded in Fall 2002 by Dr. John W. Creswell and has evolved into an advanced-level research office. The affiliated faculty and staff are actively involved in scholarly and teaching activities to promote and advance our understanding of qualitative and mixed methods research and how these methods can be applied in social, behavioral, and health science research. Graduate student research assistant positions on grant-funded projects are possible when funding is available.

The objectives of the OQMMR are to:
  • promote the use of qualitative and mixed methods research;
  • provide expertise for proposals and funded research projects;
  • and offer support for faculty and, to a limited extent, for graduate students in the College of Education and Human Sciences, who are designing and conducting qualitative and mixed methods studies.

Major activities of the OQMMR personnel include:
  • Providing research methods expertise for faculty developing proposals for external funding.
  • Serving as methodological consultants for individuals with funded projects.
  • Offering training on qualitative data analysis and using qualitative data analysis software (such as N6, Atlas.ti, and MAXqda2).
  • Assisting with preparing scholarly manuscripts for conference presentation and publication.
  • Offering limited assistance to graduate students conducting masters theses or doctoral dissertations (we do not work on class assignments) using qualitative or mixed methods designs (see information on the OQMMR Consulting Desk).
  • Housing the editorial offices for the Journal of Mixed Methods Research (Sage Publications). This journal is co-edited by John W. Creswell (UNL) and Abbas Tashakkori (Florida International University) and Vicki L. Plano Clark (UNL) serves as the managing editor.
  • Teaching research methods courses offered through the Department of Educational Psychology's QQPM Graduate Program and offering workshops on qualitative and mixed methods research.
