Creswell, Plano Clark among scholars contributing to NIH best practices for research

The National Institutes of Health today released recommendations for best practices for scientists conducting mixed methods health research. Mixed methods research combines the strengths of quantitative research and qualitative research. Despite the increased interest in mixed methods research in health fields and at NIH, prior to this report, limited guidance was available to help scientists develop applications for NIH funding that featured mixed methods designs, nor was there guidance for the reviewers at NIH who assess the quality of these applications.

Portnoy receives Fulbright, will teach in China

Robert “Bob” Portnoy has received a Fulbright award to teach in China during the 2011-2012 academic year. Portnoy is director of Counseling and Psychological Services at the University Health Center and professor of educational psychology.

Portnoy will teach courses and give lectures in psychology. He will focus on decreasing stigma and increasing access to mental health services in Chinese higher education. Portnoy will be based at Nanjing University in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. He will also give lectures at other universities throughout China.

CEHS' NEAR Center promotes statistical, measurement, and research methodology

The Nebraska Evaluation and Research Center's purpose is to promote sound statistical, measurement, and research (e.g., Quantitative, Qualitative, and Mixed Methods) methodology. In addition the Center serves as a hands-on training program for graduate students in the Quantitative, Qualitative, & Psychometric Methods (QQPM) program.
