Teaching Assistantship Responsibilities

Graduate Teaching Assistantships (GTA) are directly responsible to the faculty member(s) in charge of the course(s).

Graduate teaching assistants and those students providing hourly support for teaching have responsibilities that include:

  1. time outside the course to attend preparatory meetings scheduled by the supervising faculty
  2. preparing laboratory materials and course materials
  3. grading papers
  4. in-class activities including proctoring exams
  5. working with students in laboratory or lecture exercises, and
  6. answering students’ questions in person, in class and/or via email.

International students are required to complete ITA (Institute for International Teaching Assistants) unless they earned a degree from an U.S. university or college.
