Ancestors/Descendants spotlights fiber artist Jason Pollen’s most recent body of work, that has reconnected him with the exuberant world of children at play. With fervent determination and undiminished curiosity he cuts out shapes and uses pigments, brushes, threads and twigs to create compelling dimensional constructions. Pollen, who for many years headed the fibers program at the Kansas City Art Institute, hopes that these assemblages convey more than the sums of their parts. The colors, textures and shifting shadows guide the artist on a deeply fulfilling, enchanting journey through a labyrinthine world of the imagination. Pollen considers the work successful when it is thought provoking and communicates fascination and delight.
