I am interested in examining factors that affect reading and writing acquisition and motivation, especially in struggling readers. These factors include the reader's knowledge of the components of effective reading and writing as well as the content and instructional knowledge of their teachers. Most recently, my research in the first arena has centered on an examination of silent reading fluency and its effects on reading comprehension, the role of literacy coaches in the schools, and the integration of technology in literacy instruction for struggling readers.
