John Raible, assistant professor, TLTE, selected to receive the 2010 Friend of Children Award, presented by the North American Council on Adoptable Children (NCAC). To cite the announcement letter, "There is so much to honor, but it is your diligence, innovation, leadership and commitment to making a difference in the lives of transracial adoptees and their families that has earned you this award."

TCD designers present runway show for local high school students

TCD design majors recently mounted a runway show in the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery for visiting Millard North High School students from Omaha and for students from Lincoln's Arts and Humanities High School program. The TCD designers showed garments created in recent Line Development and Draping courses, focusing on unique and intriguing approaches to garment structure and fit. Students were wowed by the trends represented in the designer's creations and several expressed their desire to be able to purchase or commission matches to the garments.

TCD students publish 4th edition of THIS SEASON fashion magazine

The Winter/Spring 2010 edition of THIS Season magazine recently appeared and quickly disappeared, a testament to its popularity and its appeal as an indicator of fashion trends on the UNL campus and around town. A collaboration between TCD majors and downtown Lincoln apparel vendors, salons and other local businesses, THIS Season has proven itself with inventive photography and layout work, the latest styles and looks, and a fresh and cutting edge sensibility.

TCD Journalism major Belinda Wright crowned Miss Nebraska

2010 Miss Nebraska Belinda Wright, TCD Journalism major

The TCD community was excited to learn recently that TCDJ student Belinda Wright was crowned Miss Nebraska on Sunday October 25th.  One of three children, she is a native of Scotia, NE (population 300) and is currently a Senior who expects to complete her undergraduate degree in TCD with a journalism emphasis in 2010. Belinda saw competing for Miss Nebraska as a way to challenge herself and to strengthen her self-confidence as well as increase her life skills.

Hillestad Gallery Reopens with "Power and Pragmatism"

After a summer-long renovation the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery reopens on Wednesday October 14 with a reception to honor gallery donors and supporters and a panel discussion and informal modeling to celebrate the newest exhibition, Power and Pragmatism: Beyond the Little Black Dress. The entire UNL community and the public are invited to these free events beginning at 6:30 p.m. in room 11 of the Human Sciences Building on East Campus, and continuing in the Hillestad Gallery in the Department of Textiles, Clothing & Design on the building's second floor.

This Season '09 - The Green Issue

A new issue of the student-produced ‘zine This Season has been published and is available at various pick-up locations in the department. The Green Issue ’09 brought together the talents and skills of a large group of UNL and TCD students under the editorial leadership of Brittney Schuessler, Editor-in-Chief, Madison Simmons, Chief-of-Design, Rachel Sullivan, Chief-of-Photography, and Kristen Vanhessche, Illustrator. Brittney brought to her editor-in-chief role insights gleaned from her summer internship at ELLE Magazine in New York City.
