Sevier leads development of comprehensive cochlear implant services at Barkley Clinic

A year ago, Josh Sevier was in the beginning stages of establishing the Cochlear Implant Program at the Barkley Speech Language and Hearing Clinic. His vision for a team approach to providing cochlear implant services has now come to fruition, with eight cochlear implant activations completed at the Barkley Memorial Center and five more individuals in process to have surgery.

$1.4 million IES grant project aims to understand writing instruction for students with visual impairments

Associate professor Michael Hebert and assistant professor of practice Mackenzie Savaiano are launching a new research project, Project VIEW (Visual Impairments Education in Writing), with the goal of understanding how students with visual impairments in Nebraska are being taught to write.

Aphasia Awareness Month recognized by Gov. Ricketts during proclamation ceremony

Alyssa Mount, a master’s student in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s speech-language pathology program, wanted to increase the general public’s knowledge about aphasia. She found a new platform by getting Aphasia Awareness Month included in the June 17 proclamation ceremony with Governor Pete Ricketts at the Nebraska State Capitol.

“I always have a goal in mind that if we can teach at least one person in the community what aphasia is and how it can impact people, then that’s one more person who can use that knowledge,” Mount said.

Costa Rica education abroad: Caroline's experience

When I first decided to go to Costa Rica, I had no idea how impactful such a short trip abroad could truly be. I find myself already incorporating things I learned from my experiences into my everyday life, such as taking time to reflect and being more conscious of my environmental impact.

I think the biggest influence this trip has had on me, however, is pushing me to think about what kind of school I want to work in, what kind of educator I want to be, and what kind of world I want to help shape.
