Tina Horan named CEHS Staff Star Award recipient

Tina Horan, assistant director of research operations in the Nebraska Center for Research on Children, Youth, Families and Schools, has been selected as the recipient of the latest Staff Star Award by the College of Education and Human Sciences Staff Council.  

Since starting in the position in the spring of 2020, Horan has promoted several innovative ideas to aid in the growth and stability of CYFS. Her ideas to formalize the procedures for hiring, training, supervising and evaluating staff came at a crucial time when the number of people in CYFS increased exponentially. She also reorganized the center’s administrative core to be in better alignment with CEHS business operations, and in accord with the Office of Research and Economic Development, the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor, Human Resources, and other university units with whom CYFS collaborates to operate a successful research enterprise. 

“Tina’s organization, attention to detail, exceptional business acumen, organizational leadership, and dedicated service have elevated an already successful research center to one that is now (enviably) the largest and most prolific on campus,” Horan’s nominator wrote. 

Beyond her administrative leadership, Horan’s impact on a personal level has also been felt across CYFS. She brings a positive attitude and warm smile to every interaction she has with staff, faculty and students. Her thoughtful, steadfast and focused perspective has allowed CYFS to remain a highly proficient, responsive and productive research center. 

“Tina has had immeasurable positive impact on the morale in CYFS, and in the business and research cultures in CEHS,” wrote her nominator. “At times when the challenges associated with limited staff, budget issues, and heightened scrutiny are creating difficulties across campus, Tina remains reasoned, thoughtful, and responsive in ways that allow us to thrive.” 

The Staff Star Award recognizes staff members who go above and beyond their scope of duties. It is awarded to one individual in the college each quarter.
