The University of Nebraska-Lincoln offers a program to help teachers get a master's degree or special education endorsement and Sally Giittinger, campus administrator, and her staff use it as a recruitment tool.  In areas where no qualified teachers are available, teachers from the Nebraska City school travel and fill the gap, she said.

About 50 teachers in the state are qualified to teach blind and visually impaired students, Giittinger said, and that's not enought ot serve about 800 students.
