Casey to give NGN talk March 20

Carol Casey, UNMC Department of Internal Medicine and Biochemistry
will present the next NGN Seminar Series Talk. The talk is March 20, noon, in the Nebraska East Union Sunflower room. A brown bag lung with beverages and dessert will be provided.
 
Casey's talk is entitled, “Impaired Protein and Lipid Trafficking in the Alcoholic Fatty Liver."
 
Dr. Casey’s research focuses on the effects of ethanol on the liver particularly as it relates to altered protein trafficking and the pathogenesis of alcoholic liver injury.

Technology innovation projects rfp available

The CEHS Technology Committee is soliciting proposals for technology innovation projects for the 2013-14 school year. Technology innovation projects utilize student technology fees and should be designed to enhance students’ learning experiences. They should also provide an opportunity for the College to learn about and replicate innovative uses of technology. One or more proposals of up to $15,000 will be awarded.

CEHS faculty and staff receive UNL Parents Association honors

The UNL Teaching Council and UNL Parents Association honored faculty and staff at an annual recognition ceremony on Feb. 8.

Certificates of recognition for contributions to students were given during the ceremony. The awards provide positive feedback to campus faculty and staff about the work they do with students. The honors also encourage the goal of good student/faculty relationships.

Angela Wickard, a senior hospitality, restaurant and tourism management major from Bridgeport, Neb. is one of four UNL students who received the William N. Wasson Student Leadership and Academic Award presented by the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association during the organization’s national conference March 4–7 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Instructional Design Center moving

On March 25, the Instructional Design Center will re-open in Room 46 of Henzlik Hall. The new space is in the lower level on the north side of Henzlik.

The Center has been located in the former "gymnasium" space  (Henzlik 122) for many years. The Center will be closed for the move March 21-22. A new roof and other improvements are planned.

Woven art of Indonesia: Makers, meaning, and significance

This exhibit is rich in textiles, images, and motifs directly related to the intersection of the millennium-old tradition of textile weaving and the impact of outside forces bringing change to this culture.
