About the Schmoker Reading Center

The Kit and Dick Schmoker Reading Center provides reading and writing tutoring to children in the community. Tutoring is provided by UNL graduate and undergraduate students in the College of Education and Human Sciences, under the direction of UNL faculty and certified teachers. Instruction is individualized and based on assessments given by the tutors. It is our goal that each child improves his or her reading and writing skills, gains greater confidence as a reader, and establishes a love for reading.

Who We Serve

We provide one-on-one instruction to students who are reading below grade level. We conduct screenings prior to the start of each semester. Contact us for more information and to schedule your child's screening.

We serve students in grades K-6 year-round, and students in grades 7-12 during the fall semester. The number of students served in each session averages between 45-90 children.
