Hall earns Presidential Fellowship

Nutrition and Health Sciences doctoral student Elisha Hall has earned a prestigious University of Nebraska Presidential Fellowship for the 2015-16 school year. She is one of just six recipients across the NU system. Presidential Fellowships honor a select group of NU graduate students each year based on high scholastic performance and personal accomplishment. She will receive a stipend provided through the NU Foundation that allows her to pursue her studies full-time.

NHS students land prestigious scholarships for study abroad experiences

Two students in the Nutrition and Health Sciences (NHS) program have been awarded prestigious scholarships that will enable them to study abroad beginning in the summer of 2015. Maggie Dawson, a senior dietetics major, earned a David L. Boren Scholarship that will take her to Mozambique. Tau’Toya Broadway, a junior nutrition major, received a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for her trip to Ethiopia.

Jha presents for National Tourism Week

In honor of National Tourism Week, May 2-10, 2015, the Grand Island Convention and Visitors Bureau sponsored a presentation by Dipra Jha, assistant professor of practice in the Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences. Jha teaches hospitality, restaurant, and tourism management and speaks frequently at conferences and conducts training programs for a variety of organizations.

CEHS grad collaborates with Häagen-Dazs Ice Cream

Christopher Elbow, a 1996 graduate from the Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences, recently announced a collaboration between his specialty chocolate brand and Häagen-Dazs ice cream. Working with culinary professionals from across the country, the ice cream giant created its “Artisan Collection” of six new flavors, including “Spiced Pecan Turtle” from Christopher Elbow Artisanal Chocolates. According to the company’s Facebook page, the flavor is based on a chocolatey treat called Venezuelan Spice Turtles.

Zempleni to represent UNL at international research workshop

MicroRNAs (ribonucleic acid) and other non-coding RNAs are involved in almost every cellular process imaginable. They are also linked to many chronic diseases, including cancer, heart failure, diabetes, and neurological diseases. As such, these RNAs are also becoming targets for drug discovery, and the drugs are rapidly entering clinical trials. Non-coding RNA research is highly translational and can be leveraged to initiate many new collaborations. CEHS’s Dr.

Senior Jessica Remaly has been accepted into the coveted Professional Internship program at Disney. She graduates from UNL with a degree in Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Management (HRTM) in May and will begin her dream job in Orlando, Florida on June 17.

CEHS students earn top NU athletic honors

Two CEHS students, Jessie DeZiel and John Welk,  have been recognized by the University of Nebraska Athletic Department with two of its most coveted awards--the Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Year. Nebraska's outstanding student-athletes were recognized April 12 at the Lied Center during a 25th anniversary event honoring NU Athletics' highest academic, athletic and community achievers.

UNL signs MOU with Emirates Academy

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln recently signed a General Memorandum of Understanding with The Emirates Academy of Hospitality Mangagement (EAHM) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The MOU is intended to facilitate academic collaboration between EAHM and UNL's Hospitality, Restaurant and Tourism Managment (HRTM) program and is a culmination of visits by UNL faculty and students to EAHM's campus in Dubai.
