KENNETH A. KIEWRA, PH.D.
Dr. Kenneth Kiewra is a professor of educational psychology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He earned his Ph.D. in educational psychology from Florida State University and was also on the faculty at Kansas State University and Utah State University. Professor Kiewra’s research pertains to learning and to talent development. On the learning side, he has investigated note taking, graphic organizers, and the SOAR teaching and learning method he developed. On the talent side, he has investigated highly productive educational researchers and parents’ roles in talent development. Dr. Kiewra has authored five books, including: Teaching How to Learn: The Teachers Guide to Student Success, Nurturing Children’s Talents: A Guide for Parents, and his most recent book SOAR to Academic Success and Beyond, published by Cognella. Dr. Kiewra is the former editor of Educational Psychology Review, is listed among the Top 2% of the Most-Cited Researchers Worldwide, and is a frequent public speaker, having made more than 500 invited presentations to education, corporate, and parent groups. In 2021, Dr. Kiewra received his university’s system’s top award for outstanding teaching and instructional creativity.

Dr. Kiewra has made more than 500 presentations to teacher and student groups; conducted dozens of interviews for national publications such as New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, and Rolling Stone; wrote a weekly newspaper column and did a weekly radio segment; developed, taught, and supervised a study skills course that enrolls hundreds of students every semester; developed and validated the SOAR teaching and learning method and then imparted that method to tens of thousands of teachers and students world-wide; and built move-by-move a chess empire in Lincoln that deeply impacted thousands of school-aged children.
