Huskers give gift of hearing through humanitarian audiology project in Nicaragua

When Stacie Ray and Hannah Ditmars learned that there was only one known full-time audiologist in the entire country of Nicaragua, they saw a need, and also an opportunity. That inspired the two SECD faculty members to establish a humanitarian audiology project that would help both the people of Nicaragua and the students in Nebraska's Au.D. program.

Closing the distance: SLP students provide accent modification through tele practice and study abroad

Alicia Davis arrived at Nebraska in 1997 with the hope of building on the accent modification skills she had developed as a school-based speech-language pathologist. Now, Davis has helped give students in the speech-language pathology master’s program the opportunity to work on their own skills through tele practice and a study abroad trip to Costa Rica.

CAEP Accreditation: Call for Third Party Comments

Costa Rica study abroad gives Nebraska students new perspective on education

When Kelsi Anderson decided to go on a study abroad trip to Costa Rica last May, she expected to work hard every day, to be a little out of her comfort zone in staying with a host family for the two-week trip, and to be in awe of the beauty of Monteverde. What she wasn’t expecting was just how different the special education system is in Costa Rica compared with what’s in place in the United States.
