The Academy for Child and Family Well Being (ACFW) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will host a book fair to benefit the Nebraska Letterbox Club Sunday, Nov. 12, at the Barnes & Noble store at SouthPointe Pavilions in Lincoln.

Nutrition education is a good example. But research led by Dipti Dev, assistant professor of Child, Youth and Family Studies, has found that some child care providers do not feel confident educating parents.

Augmentative and alternative communication experience important piece of Nebraska SLP master’s program

In the speech-language pathology profession, AAC is an oft-used acronym used to describe various individualized methods of treatment for patients. But what exactly is augmentative and alternative communication? 

“AAC is not about replacing speech with some piece of equipment,” explained Kristy Weissling, associate professor of practice in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders. “AAC is about helping people communicate better. It’s about strategies that help people get their stories told.”

Raible receives Multicultural Educator of the Year Award

John Raible, professor of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education, was presented with the G. Pritchy Smith Multicultural Educator Award, Nov. 4, 2017, by the National Association for Multicultural Education (NAME). Raible received the honor at the 27th Annual International NAME Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah.

To be considered for the award, educators must show the following evidence in their teaching:

Gender, Appearance & Representation: A Roundtable Discussion

The Women's and Gender Studies department has teamed up with Textiles, Merchandising & Fashion Design this semester for their Fall 2017 Gender, Fashion, & the Media Joint Colloquia series. This will be their third and final event for this semester.

Gender, Appearance & Representation: A Roundtable Discussion will bring three dynamic professors together; Kwakiutl Dreher, Christin Mamiya and Sandra Starkey. Join them November 9th, 2017 from 3:30 - 5:00pm in Andrews Hall in the Dudley Bailey Library.

Beihang University faculty on learning, outreach visit

The College of Education and Human Sciences and the Department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education (TLTE) hosted seven faculty from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Beihang University Oct. 29-Nov. 2. The educators from Beijing, China came to Nebraska to learn about graduate programs in education and to better understand the research focus of the department.
