Michael to Keynote Oct. 28 Workshop on Race in Schools

Ali Michael, director of the Race Institute for K-12 Educators, will be the keynote for a free workshop from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Oct. 28 in Henzlik Hall, hosted by the College of Education and Human Sciences. “Raising Race Questions in Schools: Toward Wholeness of Self and Community” is open to all UNL students, faculty, staff and K-12 educators across Nebraska. Young families invited to participate in Full STEAM Ahead Oct. 29

Families with young children are invited to Full STEAM Ahead, Oct. 29, 1-4 p.m. at the East Campus Union Arbor Suite. The free event, sponsored by the Department of Child, Youth and Family Studies, features interactive activities in science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics using nature and the outdoors. Education abroad students from East China Normal University will also share their culture while facilitating STEAM activities. Registration is not required.

2017-18 speech-language pathology, audiology graduate open house dates announced

The Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders will once again host four open houses this year to highlight the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s graduate programs in speech-language pathology and audiology. The first open house is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 17, at the Barkley Memorial Center on East Campus.

Home is where the heart is at Ruth Staples Child Development Lab

You got to have heart. No, really. We’ve got to get a heart! That was the spontaneous rally cry of the Ruth Staples Child Development Laboratory community last week at the Nebraska by Heart open house in Haymarket Park. Parents and staff of the child center, located on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s East Campus and part of the Department of Child, Youth and Family Studies, decided at the last minute to bid on one of the hearts from the public art project that commemorates Nebraska’s 150th anniversary of statehood.

Janos Zempleni Recognized with Best Session Award

Janos Zempleni organized and chaired a session titled “Dietary Exosomes and their Cargos” at the 22nd International Conference by the Functional Foods Center, September 22-23, 2017, Harvard Medical Center, Beth Deaconess Hospital in Boston, MA. The session was recognized with the Best Session Award. In the session, Janos presented presented a talk titled “The communication of animal and bacterial kingdoms through exosomes and their RNA cargos in bovine milk,” which was co-authored by UNL faculty, staff and students, Fang Zhou, Di Wu, Jiang Shu, Henry Paz, Juan Cui and Samodha Fernando.
