Nebraska Letterbox Club selected for Celebrate Literacy Award

The Nebraska Letterbox Club, a program organized by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Academy for Child and Family Well Being (ACFW), was selected as the recipient of the Celebrate Literacy Award by the Eastern Nebraska Reading Council.

The award will be presented at the next Eastern Nebraska Reading Council meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Barnes & Noble at SouthPointe Pavilions in Lincoln.

TLTE’s Gatti earns prestigious Spencer grant

Lauren Gatti closely tracks new developments in teacher preparation. When the U.S. Department of Education announced new regulations for teacher preparation programs earlier this month, she immediately started pouring over them. Gatti’s close attention to teacher education and her unique research in teacher residency programs has resulted in a $50,000 grant from the Spencer Foundation Small Grants Program. Gatti will be working on the grant with colleagues from DePaul University and National-Louis University in Chicago.

Swearer presents on bullying at State Ed Conference

Professor Susan Swearer, Educational Psychology, will be presenting with Lincoln attorney Corey Stull at the 98th annual Nebraska State Education Conference in a special pre-conference session Nov. 16 in La Vista, Nebraska. Swearer, a nationally recognized researcher and speaker on school bullying, will discuss the psychological impacts of school bullying and Stull, from the Perry Law firm in Lincoln, will cover legal aspects for school leaders.
