Farazi Receives UNMC College of Public Health Faculty Research Award 2019

Evi Farazi, Ph.D., UNMC Assistant Professor of Epidemiology was awarded the College of Public Health Faculty Research Award for improving cancer prevention and control through basic and translational science-based research that aims at a better understanding of cancer incidence patterns and how lifestyle modifiable factors such as diet contribute to cancer as well as a better understanding of different populations’ awareness, attitudes and needs regarding cancer and screening.

NPOD Director Zempleni receives American Society for Nutrition/ASN Foundation Award

NPOD Director Janos Zempleni has been selected to receive the 2019 Osborne and Mendel Award. The award is given for outstanding recent basic research accomplishments in nutrition, to be presented during ASN’s flagship meeting, Nutrition 2019, held June 8-11, 2019 in Baltimore, MD.

Chancellor Green visits NPOD

Chancellor Ronnie Green paid a visit to NPOD on October 25, to speak with NPOD Director Janos Zempleni and students about how NPOD has positively impacted their educational experience. Students spoke about the many advantages they receive as affiliates of NPOD: working with top notch equipment, networking opportunities, publication opportunities, and training in high quality research skills alongside our faculty.

Sadri wins ASN Emerging Leaders Award

Mahrou Sadri's presentation “Bovine milk exosomes and their miR-30d cargo cross the placenta and contribute toward embryo development in C57BL/6 mice” at the Nutrition 2018 Conference, American Society for Nutrition, Boston, MA, June 2018 was winner of the Emerging Leaders in Nutrition Science Competition, Bioactive Food Compounds Research Interest Section ($400 award) as well as finalist in the American Society for Nutrition’s Nutritional Sciences Council 2018 Graduate Student Research Awards Competition .

Zempleni featured at Annual Meeting of the American Dairy Science Association

Janos Zempleni, Willa Cather Professor of Molecular Nutrition, Nutrition and Health Sciences, Director of the Nebraska Center for the Prevention of Obesity Diseases through Dietary Molecules, delivered an invited symposia talk “Bioavailability, distribution and phenotypes of bovine milk exosomes in non-bovine species” at the Annual Meeting of the American Dairy Science Association on June 25, 2018 in Knoxville, TN.

Janos Zempleni Recognized with Best Session Award

Janos Zempleni organized and chaired a session titled “Dietary Exosomes and their Cargos” at the 22nd International Conference by the Functional Foods Center, September 22-23, 2017, Harvard Medical Center, Beth Deaconess Hospital in Boston, MA. The session was recognized with the Best Session Award. In the session, Janos presented presented a talk titled “The communication of animal and bacterial kingdoms through exosomes and their RNA cargos in bovine milk,” which was co-authored by UNL faculty, staff and students, Fang Zhou, Di Wu, Jiang Shu, Henry Paz, Juan Cui and Samodha Fernando.
