Meet a Husker: Molly Sambol

08 Jan 2024

Meet Molly Sambol, a 2021 CEHS graduate from Omaha, Nebraska. Molly completed her bachelor's degree in secondary education - English and language arts, with a minor in international studies.

Why did you choose the University of Nebraska-Lincoln?

I knew I didn't want to stay in Omaha but I didn't want to go far, so UNL was the perfect solution. When I toured around campus I remember feeling like I could call it my home. I also remember liking what I heard about the education program, as other colleges that I toured made it seem like I wouldn't be able to graduate in four years due to student teaching, but that was not the case here.

What activities and organizations were you involved in on campus?

Phi Mu Sorority, Take Note A capella, BOM Korean Culture Club. (I held various leadership roles in these organizations throughout my four years.) I was also a campus tour guide.

What was your favorite class and why?

Anything taught by Professor Lauren Gatti. I was privileged enough to take two classes with her during undergrad. She is so wise but also so kind. I believe her classes were instrumental in helping prepare myself and my cohort to teach in the "real world." Learning pedagogy and teaching strategy, but also how to connect with students as humans.

What are your career goals?

I spent 2022 on a Fulbright teaching English at an advanced high school in South Korea and currently teach Senior English and AP Lit & Comp at Duchesne Academy in Omaha. I consider both of these to be dream jobs and am so lucky to have already accomplished so much since my graduation.
