CYAF Graduate Student Awards & Fellowships

I. AWARDS

Graduate Studies offers numerous awards (see below and linked here) to graduate students in the spring of each year.

Nominations of CYAF students must be submitted by GEC.

Process for nominating CYAF students:

  • For Graduate Student Excellence in Mentoring Awards, Outstanding Graduate Research and Creative Activities Awards, and Outstanding Graduate TA Awards, nominators should submit a nomination materials directly to Graduate Studies.
  • For Folsom Distinguished Master’s Thesis and Doctoral Dissertation Awards, nominators should submit a nomination letter, the nominee’s CV, and the thesis/dissertation abstract (max 1000 words). GEC will review all documents and make final decisions based on criteria of each award. GEC will then submit final names and documentation materials to Graduate Studies.

  • All materials are due to the CYAF GEC Chair by Feb. 7th, annually.

     

II.  FELLOWSHIPS

CYAF offers several merit-based fellowships to graduate students in the spring of each year.

The Chair of the CEHS Fellowships and Awards committee provides a list of available fellowships to CYAF each spring.

Eligibility:

  • Many awards have similar criteria (e.g., study focus; GPA, etc…); you may be eligible for more than one!
  • SOME awards have very specific additional eligibility (e.g., career in extension); make sure you qualify.

Process for Receiving a Fellowship:

  • CYAF (e.g., Natalie) will submit the list of available fellowships to all CYAF graduate students in the spring of each after it is received from the college.
  • Students are responsible for:
    • Determining which (if any) they are eligible to receive; and then
    • Submit supporting documents (see below) to GEC Chair to be considered;
  • GEC will review supporting documents and determine awardee for each fellowship.  Fellowships are dispersed in two equal amounts the next academic year (half in fall, half in spring).

Supportive Documents and Due Date:

  • Students are responsible for submitting the following:
    • CV
    • Identification of fellowship(s) they want to be considered for
    • Brief summary of why they should be selected to receive the fellowship(s).
      • Separate statements are not necessary for each award you want to be selected for UNLESS the award has unique criteria (e.g., career in extension, career in marriage and family therapy).
  • The due date for submitting supporting documents will be noted when the list of eligible fellowships are announced each spring (due date may vary from year to year).
