Dr. Kemp’s work focuses on explaining how health inequalities develop over the life course and across geographic contexts with the goal of identifying important levers for eliminating these inequities. She is trained as a social scientist, gerontologist, and population health scholar who uses large secondary datasets and quantitative methods to 1) explore how early life events and experiences (e.g., poverty, abuse) have enduring consequences for the health of mid and later life adults and 2) identify the social and political contexts (e.g., residential characteristics, state policies) during childhood and adulthood that are beneficial (or harmful) to the health of mid and later life adults.
Dr. Kemp earned a dual-title Ph.D. in Sociology and Gerontology from Purdue University and spent two years as a post-doc in the Aging Studies Institute at Syracuse University.
