My academic and research training and subsequent work have been in the area of research methods, and individual, family, and community influence on mental and physical health of adolescents and adults. My education has been in human development and family studies (PhD from Pennsylvania State University) with a concentration on research methods and family relations. My dissertation was on racial discrimination and depression among African Americans couples in Alabama. I have also studied community health (MS from Minnesota State University) and statistics (BS in Statistics, from Iowa State University). My master’s thesis was on the individual, family, and community influence on health of adults in rural Minnesota.<br>For over a decade post my doctoral training at Pennsylvania State University, I have engaged in academics (Auburn University, UNL, University of Colombo, Cardiff Metropolitan, Coventry, West London, Missouri S&T)) and international development work (The Colombo Plan, GoSL) on program formulation, funding, implementation, and monitoring of livelihood and development/health projects in the United States, Sri Lanka and other developing countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, Philippines, Liberia, and others.
