Postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Child Psychology

2024-2025 Academic Year

 

The Center for Pediatric Psychiatry at Children’s HealthSM in Dallas, Texas invites applicants for its APA-accredited Postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Child Psychology beginning late August, 2024.  A total of six positions will be available:

 

Eating Disorders Concentration (1 position)

   Evaluation and treatment of a diverse population of children and adolescents with a range of eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, atypical anorexia, and avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID). Common comorbidities include anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and trauma-related symptoms. 

   Fellows’ clinical experience is focused on higher levels of care (inpatient and partial hospitalization), with intensive outpatient and outpatient care also provided within the program. Services include individual, family, and group therapies, parent education, diagnostic assessment, behavioral programming, and participation in an interdisciplinary treatment environment.

   This position is based at the campus in Plano, TX.

 

Outpatient Psychology Concentration (2 positions)

General outpatient (1 position)

   This position is focused on assessment and intervention for a diagnostically complex and high acuity population within an outpatient psychiatry clinic. Rotations for this position include:

-          Early Childhood Mental Health Clinic (ECMHC) – major rotation in multidisciplinary assessment of preschool-aged children with behavioral concerns

-          Therapeutic Assessment – major rotation in collaborative assessment model aimed at helping families develop a new understanding of their child, utilizing cognitive/neuropsychological measures, structured observation, projective and relationship-based assessment

-          Outpatient Intervention – major rotation in individual and/or family therapy and parent consultation, as well as advanced training in the treatment of non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) and depression; caseload shaped by fellow’s interests and training goals

-          Functional Neurological Disorders Clinic – minor rotation in brief evaluation and consultation

-          Social Competence Intervention Program (SCIP) – co-facilitation of weekly social skills group

Suicide/depression (1 position)

   The postdoc in the suicide/depression position will focus on evaluation and treatment of suicidality and depression in adolescents. Clinical experience occurs primarily within a multidisciplinary intensive outpatient program (IOP) that is based in CBT and includes DBT-informed skills.  Postdocs provide individual, family, adolescent group, and multi-family group interventions. This position also provides the opportunity for a small outpatient caseload.

 

Pediatric Health Psychology Concentration (3 positions)

Pediatric health psychology/consult-liaison (2 positions)

   These positions provide a focused training experience in pediatric health psychology tailored to fellows’ interests and career goals. Flexible rotation selection offers opportunities for breadth of experience through the inpatient medical consultation/liaison (C/L) service, as well as specialization with populations of interest through major rotations (e.g., Oncology, Solid Organ Transplant, Gastroenterology, and others as determined by fellows’ interests and availability).

   Fellows in these positions obtain C/L experience throughout the year, with no weekend/evening call.

   Clinical experience focuses on assessment, intervention, and C/L services on inpatient medical floors and in ambulatory medical clinics with numerous rotation options, including:

-    Cardiology

-    Craniofacial/Plastic Surgery

-    Cystic Fibrosis

-    Endocrinology

-    Epilepsy

-   Gastroenterology

-   Hematology/Sickle Cell

-   Nephrology

-   NICU Follow-Up Primary Care

-   Oncology

-   Pain Management

-   Sleep Medicine

-   Solid Organ Transplant

-   Weight Management/Bariatric Surgery

   Opportunities are also available for specialized experience with at-risk populations within some specialty programs/clinics.

Foster care (1 position)

   Position based in Rees-Jones Center for Foster Care Excellence at Children’s, which serves as primary care provider for children in foster care system

-          Specialization in trauma-informed integrated primary care, with opportunities for multidisciplinary assessment, intervention, consultation, and psychoeducation services

-          Trauma-informed psychological and developmental assessment

   Fellows may have opportunities to collaborate on and receive mentorship related to mental health policy, research, and community outreach initiatives

   Previous intervention experience in Parent-Child Care (PC-CARE), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and/or Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) preferred for this position

   Clinical care will be based out of Dallas and Plano clinics

Requirements:

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or Psy.D. from an APA-accredited doctoral program and must have completed an internship from an APA-accredited program, with degree requirements met and degree conferred by the start of the fellowship year.

    • For all other positions, testing reports are not required; at least one of the two work samples must be clinical documentation other than a testing report (other acceptable work samples include progress notes, consultation reports, intakes, etc.)
  1. Degree conferral attestation form, signed by applicant and graduate program advisor or DCT (available on APPA portal)
