Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pediatric Psychology with focus in Hematology and Oncology at Seattle Children’s Hospital and the University of Washington, Seattle, WA

Applications are invited for a 12-month Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pediatric Psychology with an emphasis in Hematology and Oncology at Seattle Children’s Hospital and in partnership with the University of Washington beginning academic year 2024. The fellowship is designed to prepare the post-doctoral level trainee for a professional career in a medical setting with medically ill children. The primary patient population will include children and adolescents with cancer and their families, although there may be opportunities to work with other illness populations as well as child clinical populations depending on the training needs of the fellow.

Our commitment to training centers the clinical, academic, and professional development goals of the fellow and is individualized accordingly. The postdoctoral fellow will acquire advanced training in the understanding of oncologic disorders, required medical regimens, and interdisciplinary collaboration and co-treatment. The training emphasizes skill development in an effort to promote evidenced-based assessment and intervention for patients at a wide range of developmental levels (early childhood through young adulthood), at different stages of illness (diagnosis through survivorship or end of life), and within a range of cancer treatment programs (Brain Tumor Team, Bone Marrow Transplant Program, Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit, Immunotherapy, Cancer Survivorship Clinic, etc.). Specialized experience in endocrinology, rheumatology, pain, feeding, gastroenterology, cardiology, nephrology, urology, pulmonology, and neuromuscular disorders has also been available depending on the training goals of the fellow. The postdoctoral fellow is allotted 0.2 FTE research time to complete a research or quality improvement project. The fellow will also participate in pediatric psychology training through tiered supervision of advanced practicum students in the Cancer Survivorship Clinic. There are multiple opportunities to join existing research endeavors within Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, Seattle Children’s Hospital Research Institute and the University of Washington. The postdoctoral fellow will also have multiple didactic training opportunities available through local institutions including Seattle Children’s Hospital, the University of Washington, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and the Seattle Children’s Research Institute.
