Lurie Children's Primary Care Fellowship

20 Oct 2023

The Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Pritzker Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is recruiting for a postdoctoral fellowship. This is a fully funded 2-year opportunity within the Primary Collaborative Care program. The fellow will have an opportunity to gain clinical hours and quickly integrate into ongoing research opportunities.

Clinical opportunities:

• Conduct evaluations as part of a multi-disciplinary team for children and adolescents (6-17) with ADHD, ODD, anxiety disorders, depression, OCD, and comorbid mental health concerns.

• Provide brief evidenced-based treatments for some evaluated patients with a focus on Cognitive Behavioral Interventions.

• Engage in training and consultation with primary care providers throughout the health system and community therapists.

• Provide programmatic support and consultation within integrated general pediatrics primary care clinics.

Research opportunities:

• Engage in and contribute to the primary collaborative care research team at Lurie and collaborate across researchers through Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine.

• Contribute to existing research projects in the primary care space, including an active PCORI funded anxiety trial.

• Initiate new research, potentially related to primary care diagnostic decision making or primary care delivered behavioral health interventions, including digital health interventions.

Enhance program development through Q/I and prospective research on the collaborative and integrated care models. Ample supervision is provided to align with licensure in clinical psychology. Multiple professional development opportunities exist including but not limited to participation in 1) a monthly Postdoctoral Professional Development Seminar with all department psychology fellows and 2) a year-long supervision training with the potential to engage more junior trainees. Fellows also have access to a variety of multidisciplinary educational offerings through the department, Lurie Children’s, and Northwestern University.

Qualified applicants will have a PhD/PsyD in psychology from an APA- or CPA-approved graduate program and completion of an APA-accredited doctoral internship. Preference is given to applicants from APA-accredited clinical and school programs who have training in research and clinical areas of child psychology.

Mood, Anxiety, ADHD Collaborative Care (MAACC) Program

The Mood, Anxiety, ADHD Collaborative Care (MAACC) Program was created to develop behavioral health capacity in community pediatric primary care practices. MAACC is a hub-spoke CoCM model that serves patients aged 6-18 referred from medical providers that are seeking additional consultative and treatment support. MAACC is a multidisciplinary team that leverages care coordination, psychology, psychiatry, and social work to provide treatment recommendations for referred families and, in some case, provide brief intervention.

To support physicians in their ability to identify and treat behavioral health concerns the MAACC team is continually developing educational content and providing training across the community and hospital system. This includes training for collaborative/integrated behavioral care teams within academic general pediatric training clinics. Recently, the MAACC team has been actively involved in suicide prevention efforts in primary care.

The MAACC model has supported behavioral health research in primary care, including large randomized controlled trials.

The Institution

We are committed to welcoming colleagues from varied backgrounds because we believe that diversity strengthens the collective fabric of our medical center and fulfills our commitment to address the structural health disparities in the medical care of children. We seek colleagues who share this perspective, consider it important to their professional identity, and are representative of the families and children we serve.
