Position Overview

The Department of Psychology at the University of Kansas seeks two multi-term lecturers to teach courses across our undergraduate curriculum. Our department houses multiple thriving degree programs including Bachelor of Arts, Psychology; Bachelor of General Studies, Psychology; and Bachelor of Science, Behavioral Neuroscience.

The current expectation for multi-term lecturers in the Department of Psychology is that the instructor will teach 4 sections of undergraduate courses each semester. In addition, multi-term lecturers are expected to participate in instruction related activities beyond classroom teaching advising, curriculum development, committee service, and course improvement activities. The successful candidate will possess outstanding teaching skills and a commitment to continue to grow and develop as an instructor.

The current appointment is for a 3-year term contingent on satisfactory annual performance evaluations. Multi-term lecturers are eligible for reappointment at the University of Kansas contingent on departmental and college review and the availability of funding. Multi-term lecturers are eligible for voting privileges after one year of service.

Job Description

90% - Teaching:

  • Will be expected to teach 4 courses per semester.
  • Prepare for and attend all class meetings.  In case of absence, the lecturer must make arrangements for a substitute to teach the class.  Classes should not be cancelled.
  • Develop assignments, administer tests, evaluate student work, provide feedback to students, and assign grades.

10% - Service:
  • Will be expected to serve on committees related to undergraduate instructions and course design as appropriate. 
  • Other service may be assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Psychology or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach a range of topics across the discipline.
  • Familiarity with instructional tools such as Canvas

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching undergraduate courses.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based teaching practices.
  • Familiarity with undergraduate degree programs in Psychology.
