Nicklaus Children's Hospital is South Florida's only licensed specialty hospital exclusively for children, with nearly 800 attending physicians and more than 475 pediatric subspecialists. The 309-bed hospital, known as Miami Children's Hospital from 1983 through 2014, is renowned for excellence in all aspects of pediatric medicine, with many programs routinely ranked among the nation's best by U.S. News & World Report, since 2008. The hospital is also home to the largest pediatric teaching program in the southeastern United States and has been designated an American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet facility.

The Department of Psychology at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital is pleased to announce the availability of  FOUR 12-month postdoctoral fellowships (two positions for each Track) for the 2024-2025 year.

1)      Postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology

Outpatient Psychological Treatment—The fellow will be expected to provide psychotherapy services to children and adolescents with a wide range of emotional and behavioral disorders. Treatment activities will focus on family, systemic, behavioral, and cognitive-behavioral interventions for youth and their families presenting with a diverse set of clinical issues, such as ADHD, depression, anxiety, communication disorders, and neurodevelopmental disorders. Participation in psychoeducational groups for anxiety, social skills training, attention/ concentration, and parenting is also expected.

Outpatient Psychological Assessment—The fellow will be expected to provide assessment services to children and adolescents, including developmental assessments (for children ages 2-5), psychoeducational assessments, and psychological / personality assessments. Assessment duties will include the use of a range of assessment tools including intellectual and educational measures, objective measures, self-report measures, and projective inventories, with most evaluations including assessment of the child’s cognitive, behavioral, and emotional functioning, and developmental level. Fellows are involved in all aspects of testing, including intakes, administration, report writing, and feedback sessions.

2)      Postdoctoral Fellowship in Pediatric Psychology- Consultation-Liaison service, Outpatient Therapy service, and Outpatient clinics

 The fellow will be expected to provide hospital-wide consultation and intervention for patients admitted to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. The postdoctoral fellow will provide inpatient consultation and intervention to hospitalized children and families, as well as outpatient follow-up care.  Clinics include Diabetes Clinic, Late Effects Clinic, Sickle Cell Clinic, as well as, Neurogenetics Clinic, IBD Clinic, Headache Clinic, Rare Chromosome Clinic, and Pediatric Health Clinic. Outpatient therapy and assessment cases will also be assigned. Specific training in pediatric psychology and consultation/liaison service delivery is required. Supervision and training for pediatric health interns (from our APA-accredited internship), advanced practicum students, and medical residents is also expected.  Research involvement is encouraged for submission of posters and papers in national conferences.

 

FOR ALL TRACKS- Weekly individual supervision will be provided, as well as opportunities for group supervision and didactics. Fellows are also expected to participate in program development, community outreach opportunities, and assist in the supervision of psychology trainees.

All applicants should possess a doctoral degree from an APA-accredited program and internship in clinical child psychology and/ or pediatric psychology. Please specify the fellowship you are applying to on your cover letter. Applicants should have a background in behavioral, as well as cognitive-behavioral assessment/treatment, and various experiences in clinical child and/or pediatric psychology. In addition, experiences with culturally and linguistically competent approaches to testing and intervention are necessary.  Spanish-speaking providers are encouraged to apply. Interviews will be arranged for January 2024 after initial screening of applications. Common Hold Date is February 26th, 2024. Virtual interviews will be offered for all tracks. Interested candidates will also have the option of attending an in-person hospital tour and meeting with faculty after virtual interviews are completed (by invitation only).  Start date is August or September 2024 (depending on internship completion date). Once fellows are selected, the following will be required before start date: electronic application for new employees, CPR AED certification (from the American Heart Association), background check, health screening, and hospital orientation/ training modules.
