Primary Children's Hospital Utah - Child and Adolescent Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship

24 Oct 2023

This is one of three distinct postdoctoral fellowship positions at Primary Children's Hospital. The other positions are listed as: Primary Children's Hospital - Pediatric Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship and Primary Children's Hospital – Child and Adolescent Intensive Services Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship.

Located in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountains, Primary Children’s Hospital is the children’s hospital for Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada, and Montana. Primary Children’s Hospital is owned by Intermountain Health and is the pediatric specialty teaching hospital for the University of Utah School of Medicine. Most of Primary Children’s behavioral health service line is located on Wasatch Canyons Campus, approximately 20 miles southwest of the hospital. On Wasatch Canyons Campus are the inpatient/acute care unit, partial hospitalization program, child and adolescent day treatment programs, child and adolescent intensive outpatient (IOP) programs, and the outpatient clinic.

This is a full-time, benefits eligible, child and adolescent psychology postdoctoral fellowship position with a stipend of $55,000. This is a one-year position that includes completing psychological evaluations with patients ages 3-18 across the service line (generally between 60-70 evaluations per year) and facilitating psychotherapeutic interventions in the outpatient setting. The fellowship therefore provides opportunity for further development of psychological testing skills across multiple levels of care; these assessments focus on diagnostic clarification and treatment planning--ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder and other developmental conditions, behavioral disturbance, cognitive/learning problems, case conceptualization. Treatment interventions in the outpatient clinic involve patients ages 3-18 with a wide range of developmental (e.g., autism spectrum disorder) and mental health (anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavioral disturbance, trauma) presentations through a team-based care model (trauma, parenting, CBT, DBT, testing). If desired, fellows are able to co-lead one of several available treatment groups (e.g., mindfulness groups, anxiety and/or depression skills groups, parenting classes), or develop and lead a group according to clinic need and fellow interest. There is also an opportunity to serve as a member of our outpatient DBT team, including providing individual and family therapy, as well as co-lead a DBT multifamily skills group. Telehealth will likely remain a component of the program for a portion of psychotherapy cases, although this is subject to change per COVID-19 developments.

On the child and adolescent day treatment units, our postdoctoral fellow has the opportunity to consult with a multidisciplinary team, participate in case conferences to aid in treatment and educational planning for patients, and work with day treatment teachers and outside schools regarding school accommodations. The fellow will be involved in didactic trainings and seminars, supervision of students in psychotherapy, and there are also opportunities to participate in various training activities associated with our APA-accredited internship program.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Completion of all PhD or PsyD requirements from an APA- approved clinical or counseling graduate program by the start of the fellowship

· Completion of an APPIC-approved predoctoral internship program with specialized training and experience in child and adolescent psychology

· Psychology resident license from the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL) by the start of the fellowship
