PEDIATRIC PSYCHOLOGY POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP 2024-2025

The Psychology Department of St. Louis Children’s Hospital is pleased to offer up to 4 full-time postdoctoral fellowship positions in pediatric psychology for the 2024-2025 training year, one year in length with an option of staying for a second year. The training year will begin on September 3, 2024. The program is a member of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) and the Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology Training Council (CCAPTC). 

Our application deadline is Friday December 15, 2023. Applications will be reviewed and interviews will be offered on a rolling basis.

We offer an individualized training program that allows us to tailor training opportunities to the specific clinical and professional interests, needs, and goals of the fellow.  All fellows participate in our multidisciplinary craniofacial clinic and outpatient psychotherapy clinic.   The fellowship offers a strong emphasis on clinical training, with major and minor opportunities for 6-month or year-long rotations in the areas of:

  • Medical Consultation-Liaison
  • Solid Organ Transplant / Cardiology / Dialysis
  • Hematology / Oncology
  • Pain and Somatic Symptom Disorders
  • Gender Diverse Youth
  • Sleep
  • Endocrinology / Diabetes

Our department provides inpatient and outpatient services to a diverse population of families from urban and rural settings, range of SES, range of ethnic diversity, ages (newborn-young adult), referral concerns, and disease presentation. There are 3 locations where psychology provides care to patients and families. Psychology fellows may work at more than one location depending upon their clinical rotations.

In addition to strong clinical training, the fellowship also provides training in scholarly, QI, research, and program development activities. Fellows participate in comprehensive didactic programming within the department that covers foundational as well as innovative topics, including but not limited to clinical intervention, DEI, professional issues, case conferences, supervision, and QI/research. Fellows are valued members of the Department of Psychology as well as the medical teams with whom they work. 

Application Procedures: A completed application consists of the following materials through the APPA-CAS portal:

  • A cover letter detailing training, research, and professional interests and experiences. Within the cover letter, please indicate any preferences for major and minor specialization of interest for the training year. 
  • A current Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Three letters of recommendation, with one preferably being written by a direct internship supervisor
  • Two de-identified writing samples (e.g., inpatient consult report, outpatient diagnostic interview)
    • Please make sure that at least one writing sample has a case conceptualization.
    • We do not prefer to receive psychoeducational or neuropsychological testing reports.

Interviews will occur mid to late January (exact dates TBD) and will be virtual. Our program will be following the APPIC Common Hold Date guidelines.

Salary/Benefits: This position offers an annual stipend of $54,000. As full-time employees, fellows are eligible for benefits including medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, 401k participation and match, and life insurance options. Fellows are eligible for a total of 23 days of paid time off and 3 conference days. Fellows will be given professional development funds, including coverage of provisional licensure fees.

Requirements:  Applicants are required to have completed their training in an APA or CPA accredited PhD or PsyD program in Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology. Applicants are required to have completed an APA-accredited internship or one that meets APPIC standards (training brochure required to submit with application if internship was not APA accredited). Candidates should have specific training experiences in clinical child/adolescent psychology and some pediatric psychology in order to be able to benefit from the experiences offered during the fellowship year.
