Gundersen Health System is pleased to offer a one-year Pediatric Psychology Post-Doctoral Fellowship accepting one applicant for the fall of 2024. Our program aims to further develop and strengthen future clinicians' ability to assess and treat a wide variety of mental health concerns within the medical population. 

The Pediatric Psychology Fellow will gain clinical experience under the supervision of Licensed Clinical Psychologists working across the hospital setting. The Pediatric Psychology Fellow will be offered opportunities to gain additional experience providing outpatient therapy (virtual and in-person), outpatient IQ/Achievement and ADHD testing services; inpatient consultation and liaison; gender evaluations, eating disorder treatment, working on multidisciplinary treatment teams; conducting crisis evaluation; and group therapy services. We encourage fellows to choose rotations that most interest them and best align with their career goals. Services provided are short-term and evidenced-based. There is also potential for research collaboration and teaching opportunities. The Fellow will also have regularly scheduled supervision and didactic seminars. Opportunity to attend virtual hospital wide Grand Rounds and Continuing Education conferences will also be available. Career development opportunities including licensure support will also be provided.

 

The Fellow will be physically located on Gundersen‘s main campus in La Crosse, WI. The Fellow will have an office located in Outpatient Behavioral Health, in which they will see outpatient, telehealth, and testing patients. The Fellow will also interact with staff and patients on the Pediatrics Unit, Pediatrics Intensive Care Unit and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit through the consultation and liaison service. The Fellow will be included in multidisciplinary teams in the Pediatric Specialties and Pediatric Neurology departments, including Pediatric Allergy; Pediatric Gastroenterology; Pediatric Endocrinology; Pediatric Cardiology; and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. Formal participation in Cystic Fibrosis Clinic, Pediatric Diabetes Clinic and Pediatric Headache Clinic opportunities will also be available. The fellow will also be involved with the Transgender Health Team and participate on the Eating Disorder Team. The Fellow will regularly collaborate with the system's Pediatricians, who represent a significant referral source.

 

Applicants are required to have completed a Clinical Ph.D. or Psy.D. program at an APA accredited graduate program, have completed all program requirements including dissertation with graduation certificate in hand prior to their start date, and will have successfully completed an APA accredited internship. An exceptional candidate for this fellowship program will have a training background providing psychological services to similar populations their practicum and internship experiences. Previous experience working in a medical center and practice of cognitive behavioral interventions is highly preferred. Candidates who complete this training program will be well qualified to continue their career working in a medical setting.
