Fellowship Positions in Pediatric Health Psychology - Akron Children's Hospital

Akron Children’s Hospital is pleased to announce that we will be recruiting two positions for our one-year fellowship program in Pediatric Health Psychology (September 2024-August 2025). Akron Children’s Hospital’s is an APPIC member institution and has been providing individualized training in pediatric health psychology for the past 15 years. We currently have 24 psychologists on faculty who offer supervision and training across 17 different medical subspecialties and interdisciplinary programs.  

Individuals in our Pediatric Health Psychology Fellowship program have a primary responsibility in covering the inpatient psychology consultation/liaison service. Additionally, fellows are able to customize their training year by choosing from a variety of rotations based on their interests and/or career goals. We are immensely proud of the rotations we offer, and we continue to add options to the following list year-to-year.

  • Epilepsy Monitoring/Treatment program 
  • Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation 
  • Behavioral Feeding Disorders 
  • Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes 
  • Pediatric Obesity 
  • Gastroenterology Clinic 
  • Headache Clinic 
  • Tic and Tourette’s program 
  • Behavioral Sleep Medicine 
  • Sports Medicine 
  • Neuropsychological Assessment program 
  • Autism Diagnostic Clinic 
  • School Success Program 
  • Eating Disorders 

The fellows participate in a variety of didactic activities (e.g., Pediatric Psychology Didactics Series, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Seminar and Professional Development Seminar). Additionally, fellows are required to complete a small research project under the mentorship of our faculty. Research programs are ongoing and are embedded within many of the patient populations served by Psychology in the hospital.

Interested applicants should submit a letter of interest, a current curriculum vita (CV), an official transcript from their psychology graduate program, and three letters of reference. We are committed to building a diverse Pediatric Psychology workforce, and applicants from underrepresented populations are encouraged to apply.  Applications should be submitted through the Centralized Application System: APPA CAS

Invitations to interview will be extended by December 18. Virtual Interviews will take place on Friday, January 26 and Monday, January 29. We will adhere to the Common Hold Date selection procedures as recommended by APPIC.
