Clinical Psychology Postdoctoral Fellow – Veterans Specialty

The American Psychological Association (APA) accredited George Mason University (GMU) Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to focus on services for veterans in our training clinic, the GMU Center for Community Mental Health (https://ccmh.gmu.edu/). This is a 1-year full time position, with potential for renewal.

George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason’s academic and culturally inclusive environment.

About the Program:

The postdoctoral fellow will gain experience providing critical mental health services for veterans. This is an excellent opportunity for a veteran-focused postdoctoral fellow in need of hours and experience for licensing. This position will entail conducting independent medical evaluations for veterans with PTSD, substance use or other psychiatric disorders, in conjunction and coordination with our various legal partners (including the Virginia Department of Veteran Services). This fellow will also be available to provide evidence-based therapy services for veterans and their dependents. The fellow will complete three comprehensive assessments/independent medical evaluations per month, consult regularly with our legal partners, and see approximately 4 veteran-related therapy clients per week. Two supervisors, one who specializes in veteran testing, and one who has expertise in therapy for veterans, will provide supervision. Other optional opportunities for gaining experience in supervision or specialty areas exist, as does the opportunity to work with Mason’s Military Veterans and Families Initiative.

George Mason University is the largest, most diverse public research university in Virginia. The Clinical Psychology Program is committed to training graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to meet the evolving roles of clinical psychologists in an evidence-based and antiracist framework. Detailed information about the program, including its mission statement, can be found at https://clinical.gmu.edu/. We strongly encourage individuals from underrepresented minority groups to apply.

Required Qualifications:

Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical psychology from an APA-accredited program by the start date of the position; completion of an APA-accredited predoctoral internship; and prior experience with both therapy and testing of veterans/military populations. All degree requirements, including dissertation defense, must be completed prior to beginning fellowship. The stipend for the 2024-2025 Fellowship year is $61,500
