Carrie Clark, associate professor of educational psychology, and Amanda Prokasky, senior research specialist at the MAP Academy, led the final presentation of the Fall 2023 Methodology Applications Series Dec. 8. 

Video is now available of Clark and Prokasky’s presentation, “Capturing Life in Motion: Leveraging Wearable Technology for Human Subjects Research.”

The presentation outlined the possibilities of employing wearable devices to capture and analyze real-time data, which may provide insights into human physiology and its relation to overall well-being.

Clark and Prokasky discussed the integration of wearables into research methodologies, shedding light on their utility in tracking various metrics, including heart rate variability and sleep patterns. They also cited studies that demonstrate the versatility of wearable devices, and discussed the data analytic process, methodological considerations, challenges and opportunities inherent in this dynamic approach to data collection. 

The Methodology Applications Series is sponsored by CYFS’ MAP Academy. The 2023-24 Methodology Applications Series focuses on leveraging cutting-edge technology to advance research and methods. 

The series will resume March 22, 2024, with a presentation by Justin Olmanson, associate professor of innovative technologies the Department of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education.
