CEHS recognizing 234 students at Teacher Education Convocation April 5

The 234 University of Nebraska-Lincoln undergraduate students who have been officially admitted to teacher education programs during the 2023-24 academic year will be recognized at the inaugural Teacher Education Convocation April 5 at Carolyn Pope Edwards Hall. 

The event will feature two ceremonies – one for students admitted in Fall 2023 from 10-11:30 a.m. in room 227, and one for students admitted in Spring 2024 from 3:30-5 p.m. in the auditorium (room 005). 

“We’re seeking to elevate the stature of education and educators,” said Nick Pace, acting dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences. “Teachers really are the gateway to the kind of world we want to live in, and we want to honor that. No matter one’s position in life, everyone can point to a teacher who made a deep impact on their life.” 

Students will be formally recognized during the Convocation ceremonies and presented with a commemorative pin symbolizing that they are one step closer to entering the professional life of an educator. Marilyn Moore, a lifelong educator who earned her bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees at CEHS, will provide the keynote address for both ceremonies. 

“Educators help students see what’s possible in themselves and in the world,” Pace said. “In the College of Education and Human Sciences, we are committed to that mission, and it’s never been more important. I hope this celebration will help our future educators see that they are a special group that is part of something larger than themselves. We want to create excitement about the differences they can make in lives, communities, and ultimately the world.”
