Child, Youth and Family Studies
Accelerated Master of Science (M.S.)
The Accelerated M.S. degree program in children, youth, and family studies targets highly-qualified undergraduate students to begin their graduate course work while earning the bachelor’s degree and to prepare them for competitive employment in the human services field (practitioner track) or for pursuing continued graduate studies (Ph.D. via doctoral coursework).
Students in the program will:
Understand child development and family-based theories and how those apply to real-life contexts
Demonstrate an evidence-informed perspective from which to understand individual, family, and interpersonal dynamics
Development professionally through targeted research design and analyses (research track) or scholarly practice within the human services field (practitioner track)
Work with leading researchers in the field of children, youth, and family studies

In your Personal Statement, address the following:
Describe 1 to 3 personal and professional goals or objectives, and how this degree will help you achieve them.
Describe how your past experience (work, volunteer, research, etc.) provides you a context for studying in this field.
Review current CYAF faculty. Identify at least one (max 3) faculty member(s) with whom you would like to work. Describe how your interests align with research, extension, and/or creative activity of the CYAF faculty you list.
Admission
CYAF graduate education faculty first review all files, these are then forwarded to the graduate faculty for review to determine admission. Graduate faculty advisors will be assigned to students in the CYAF Accelerated M.S. program once they are admitted into the program (while still completing the undergraduate degree).
Degree Requirements
Once accepted in to the program, students select from two curriculum tracks (Research or Practitioner). See Child, Youth and Family Studies (M.S.) for a description of coursework requirements for both tracks.
GRADUATE COURSES COUNTED TOWARD THE BACHELOR’S DEGREE
Bachelor’s level students accepted into the Accelerated M.S. degree program in Child, Youth and Family Studies may select up to 4 GRADUATE LEVEL courses (12 total credits) to count toward the B.S. degrees (see below).
