SECD students prepare to showcase research posters at Capitol, Research Fair

Juniors Rachel Beeney, Sydney Harrington and Yesenia Delgadillo are among the students whose 2018-19 Undergraduate Creative Activities and Research Experience (UCARE) poster was selected for the Undergraduate Research at the Capitol breakfast and poster session April 16 at the Nebraska State Capitol Building.

Terry McTier Jr. joins Ohio University as Assistant Professor

Terry McTier Jr., an EDAD alum, was recently awarded the position of Assistant Professor at Ohio University starting next fall 2019.

McTier came to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to pursue a master’s in student affairs. The choice, however, was random. He said he decided on an institution by closing his eyes and picking one on a map, and Nebraska was his choice.

Outstanding Undergraduate Research Mentor Award

Sathish Kumar Natarajan and Karsten Koehler, Assistant Professors in NHS, were nominated for the Outstanding Undergraduate Research Mentor Award from UNL. Karsten Koehler was selected for the award. He will receive $1000, and will be recognized at the Laurels.

Three CEHS Faculty Receive Distinguished Teaching Award

In 1976, the Nebraska Legislature authorized the presentation of $1,000 stipends to selected faculty members to recognize excellence in teaching. Up to 15 awards are presented each year based on recommendations from the colleges. The CEHS recipients this year are Shavonna Holman, Sue Kemp, and Matthew Fritz. Awardees will be recognized at The Laurels award reception in September. Congratulations to our winners!

Two HRTM Professors Receive Awards at Central CHRIE Conference in Indianapolis

Dipra Jha, Associate Professor of Practice for HRTM, has been awarded the 2019 Outstanding Teaching Achievement Award by the Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (CHRIE) Central Federation. Kristin Malek, Assistant Professor for HRTM, was awarded 1st place in the Thinkathon Industry Challenge. The topic for the industry challenge was artificial intelligence in hospitality. The awards were presented at the Central CHRIE conference in Indianapolis earlier this month.
