Students who are interested in adding an endorsement to their Special Education teaching certificate have several specific content-area options. The added endorsement areas include: 1) Deaf and Hard of Hearing, 2) Visual Impairments, 3) Orientation and Mobility, 4) Early Childhood Special Education, or 5) General Special Education in K-6 or 7-12 grade levels.

Students can earn an initial teaching license at the graduate level through the Early Childhood Special Education program or the General SPED k-6 or 7-12 program.

Students can earn an endorsement alone or combine it with a Master's Degree. Students must apply for admittance into each of the programs separately. Students are required to take the foundational classes noted below before they can begin taking the professional sequence of classes.

  • Introduction to Special Education
  • Special Education Assessment
  • Behavior Management
  • Special Education Methods

Students will meet with an adviser to develop a program of study to ensure that the specific program meets the requirements set forth by the Nebraska Department of Education for endorsement in the state of Nebraska.
