Ethnic Studies Specialization
Master of Science (M.S.) in Child, Youth and Family Studies
This program is offered by the Institute for Ethnic Studies though the College of Arts and Sciences.
If you’re interested in adding an Ethnic Studies Graduate Specialization to your program, please take the following required steps.
Please send an e-mail to the Director of the Institute for Ethnic Studies and the Associate Director/Graduate Advisor.
In the subject line of the email, write Requesting Graduate Specialization in Ethnic Studies.
In the body of the email, please include the following:
- a description of your area of study
- a list of the courses you plan to take from our graduate specialization course listing (available at https://ethnicstudies.unl.edu/graduate )
- the Ethnic Studies-related topic on which you plan to write your thesis or dissertation
- the Ethnic Studies professor who has agreed to serve on your committee.
In addition to sending this email, please make sure your home department is aware of your intent. Notify the graduate chair, graduate secretary, or whoever handles graduate student records in your department.
Once you receive an official reply via e-mail from the Director of the Institute for Ethnic Studies, please forward that email to the Office of Graduate Studies.
Then complete the form that the Office of Graduate Studies requires.
When all these steps are complete, you will be officially listed as an Ethnic Studies Graduate Specializer.
If you complete all the necessary requirements of the specialization, then when you graduate with your MS or PhD, your Graduate Specialization will appear on your transcript.
