Students pursuing a degree and teaching certificate in elementary education must first meet selection requirements for the Elementary Teacher Education Program (ETEP). Selections will be made two times per academic year. Application deadline is September 11th or January 29th. The following requirements must be met before a student enters the program. Applications submitted by students who have not met these requirements will not be reviewed. When submitting your application for the Elementary Teacher Education Program, acceptance is for the following semester only.
Requirements Prior to Admittance:
- Students must be admitted to the College of Education and Human Sciences (CEHS).
- Completion of a minimum of 30 credit hours with at least a 2.75 grade point average.
- Completion of or in progress TEAC 331 with a minimum grade of C.
- Completion of EDPS 250 (or approved equivalent) with a minimum grade of C.
- Completion of TEAC 297A (or approved transfer equivalent) with a minimum grade of C.
- Completion of a formal criminal history review, for CEHS, by the vender approved by CEHS.
The Application:
Each application includes meeting of requirements and submittal of an application form that includes:
- UNL GPA
- Grades in Education Classes
- Evaluations by Cooperating Teacher and Supervisor from 297A or acceptable equivalent course
- Optional letter explaining low GPA or practicum evaluation concerns. Please talk with your advisor about the optional letter. Optional letter must be cut and pasted into the evaluation system; it cannot be an attachment.

Directions:
- Students can enter their optional letter on the following site: https://cehsvL01.unl.edu/tlte/eval.
- Log in to the site with your MyUNL login (this is the same site you previously completed your practicum evaluations). *If you have never used this system before, enter just your First and Last Name, then enter INSERT RECORD.
- Once you are on the site, on the lower right-hand side you will see a box for the “Demographic Survey and Optional Application Letter”.
- Please remember to meet with your advisor to complete and submit your current, on-line application.
Selection:
The scores of evaluators are averaged and ranked from the highest to the lowest score. The number of students admitted in any semester is determined by a cutoff criteria and available departmental resources. Under no circumstances are scores of applicants revealed.
