Nebraska P-12 Administrative Certification/Endorsement
Building Level Leadership
For educators in P-12 schools who have a passion for providing building level leadership, completion of 36 hour programs lead to certificate/endorsement in the following area:
- Elementary Principal (P-8)
- Secondary Principal (7-12)
- Curriculum Supervisor
- Special Education Supervisor
The most current requirements for the respective certificate/endorsement programs can be obtained from the EDAD Graduate Secretary (402-472-3729). A student must complete a minimum of 18 hours from UNL in order to be recommended for a certificate/endorsement.
Individuals who desire principal certification at both the elementary (P-8) or Secondary (7-12) levels must first complete the certificate program at the level of teaching certification/experience and then develop a program of an additional 9 hours to obtain the additional endorsement.
Programs leading to building level (school) administrative certification/endorsement can be completed online, or through a combination of online and on campus courses.
Certificate of Specialization in Educational Administration and Supervision (6-year)
The Department of Educational Administration offers a 66 semester hour, non-degree preparation program leading to a P-12 Certificate of Specialization in Educational Administration and Supervision (6-year). This course of study is designed to meet the requirements for a Nebraska Professional Administrative and Supervisory Certificate, with the certificate endorsement of superintendent.
The most current requirements for the Certificate of Specialization can be obtained from the EDAD Graduate Secretary (402-472-3729). A student must complete a minimum of 36 hours from UNL in order to be recommended for a certificate/endorsement.
During the first, second, and third summers of enrollment, students in this program are required to attend one-week residencies in Lincoln. All other courses are delivered online.
Certification/Endorsement in States Other than Nebraska
It is the student’s responsibility to check/verify that any UNL program for administrative certification/endorsement is accepted in their respective state and it is the responsibility of the student to apply for certification.
Community College Leadership Certificate
The Program
The Community College Leadership Certificate (CCLC) is comprised of three components. The university component includes a set of five courses that develop the knowledge and capabilities for effective leadership of the community college. The five courses are designed individually and collectively to cover the key areas of knowledge and skills needed to lead community colleges in a rapidly changing environment. While addressing a broad range of capabilities, we believe that leadership cannot be developed based on what can be learned in college courses alone. The second component includes involvement in professional associations related to the community college. As part of the certificate experience, we encourage and expect CCLC participants to continue their learning through opportunities for further development afforded by membership in professional networks and associations or by participation in institutional or community-based leadership initiatives. The final component involves institutional support to develop leaders. We encourage and expect CCLC participants to have an institutional sponsor or mentor, an individual with whom they can discuss aspects from both the UNL coursework and the professional development activity as they pertain to the employing institution. The Certificate will be awarded only to those individuals who successfully complete each of the three components as agreed upon with their advisor and reflected in the culminating university course. The Certificate can be completed as a stand-alone credential or in conjunction with the EdD degree with a specialization in Educational Leadership and Higher Education.
