Sherri Jones receives highest American Speech-Language-Hearing Association honor

Sherri Jones, Dean of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Education and Human Sciences, is one of eight individuals being recognized in 2019 with Honors of the Association from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

Honors of the Association is ASHA’s most prestigious award, recognizing lifetime achievement. Jones will be honored during the awards ceremony at the annual ASHA convention Nov. 22, in Orlando.

A little over 10 years ago, Cody Hollist could see someone close to him struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder following a military deployment. He realized he had the skill set to help — not only his friend, but many service members.

Identity on the Walls: Brazilian Graffiti and Cultural Expression

A Brazilian artist named Eder Muniz will be presenting on the history of graffiti as its importance as an art form for cultural and community expression. Eder is considered one of the 100 most important and influential artists in Brazil. His work draws on his African and Indigenous heritage that illustrates the connection between nature and people. His artwork has been on exhibits throughout the world, more specifically in the UCLA Fowler Museum exhibition (2017-2018).

Kostelnik, Franco named to faculty ombuds roles

Marjorie Kostelnik, professor of child, youth and family studies (left), and Rodrigo Franco Cruz, associate professor of veterinary medicine and biomedical sciences, are the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's new team of faculty ombuds.

Kostelnik and Cruz are training with national ombuds organizations and developing a program for Nebraska that will be introduced to campus in January. Both will provide support to all members of faculty, with Kostelnik having an office on City Campus and Franco on East Campus.

Celebrating Children on Campus Week

This week the Ruth Staples Child Development Laboratory will be celebrating “Children on Campus Week.” A week long celebration that serves several purposes for the program, as it’s a way for the Child Development Lab to show their appreciation for the support on campus, celebrating the children in the development lab. Helping to build understanding for the importance of high quality early childhood programs for supporting children’s overall health and development.

Dr. Springer named CYAF Interim Chair

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Paul Springer has agreed to serve as the CYAF interim chair while a national search is completed. Dr. Springer has significant leadership experience given his time as interim associate dean and we are confident that he will maintain stability, as well as help guide growth and achievement during the interim period. As chair, Dr. Springer will provide overall leadership for the Department of Child, Youth and Family Studies including the management of and the long-range planning for the unit.

Dr. Helen Raikes Awarded 2019 Louise Pound-George Howard Distinguished Career Award

Tuesday Sept. 3rd, the UNL Faculty Senate presented the Louise Pound-George Howard Distinguished Career Award to Dr. Helen Raikes. Dr. Raikes is a Willa Cather professor in Child, Youth and Family Studies. The Pound-Howard Award is given annually to a person(s) who has  demonstrated outstanding service and commitment to the University. Each year several nominees are submitted from across campus.

Closed Parking Lot

Campus parking rules change for football game days

Faculty and staff permit parking areas, including reserved, non-reserved and garages, are reassigned on home football game days.


Campus parking permit holders cannot park in standard assigned parking areas during game day preparation and activities. Parking areas close at 10 p.m. the night before a home game. Vehicles parked in violation of campus rules can be ticketed and towed.
