Zsombor Rajkai to speak March 15

02 Mar 2012

The Child, Youth and Family Studies Department will host Zsombor Rajkai, who will give a presentation entitled "Family and Social Change in Socialist and Post-Socialist Societies: East Europe and East Asia." Rajkai's presentation will be March 15, 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. in Room 262 Mable Lee Hall.

Zsombor Rajkai is recognized as an expert on the role of family both in socialist modernization and in the systemic transformation that follows. His line of research is an attempt to give a new interpretation to family--and familial relation--in socialist and post-socialist societies, so-called transitional societies.  Rajkai has a Ph.D. in Sociology from Kyoto University and a Ph.D. in  Linguistics from Eötvös Loránd University. His research team focuses on how the family-as-intimate-sphere is affected as these transitional societies change due to transformations in marketization, social and family policies, and emerging grassroots communities and civil societies.
