Registration open for early childhood bullying prevention conference

Registration is open for the June 13 Bullying Prevention Conference: Identifying and Intervening in Early Childhood at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Nebraska Innovation Campus. The conference is free and open to the public, but space is limited.

Featured speakers include Cynthia Germanotta, co-founder of the Born This Way Foundation; Dan Olweus, international scholar in the field of bullying prevention research; and Marjorie Kostelnik, dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences.

Presenting the 2016 CEHS Awards

The College of Education and Human Sciences at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln will present its annual CEHS awards at 10 a.m., April 22 at the Sheldon Museum of Art, with a reception following. All CEHS faculty, staff, friends and family are invited to attend. The College of Education and Human Sciences is pleased to announce the following award recipients.

Geisinger selected as Penn State Alumni Fellow

Kurt Geisinger, WC Meierhenry Distinguished University Professor in Educational Psychology and Director of the Buros Center for Testing, was recently honored by the Penn State Alumni Association as a 2016 Alumni Fellow. This award recognizes Geisinger’s exceptional professional accomplishments and is the highest honor given by the Penn State Alumni Association. Geisinger is being invited back to University Park campus for a special induction ceremony and private breakfast in October.

Kathleen Rudasill has been named Susan J. Rosowski Associate Professor of Educational Psychology. Her work on understanding how the individual differences in children and adolescents and how those differences contribute to academic and social success in school has received national attention.

High risk drinking consortium gets national attention

A CEHS housed program in the Department of Educational Psychology that has worked since 1979 to prevent alcohol and drug abuse in Nebraska was on a national stage Feb. 10. Megan Hopkins, project manager for the Nebraska Collegiate Consortium To Reduce High Risk Drinking (NCC), participated in a national webinar to rollout a new toolkit for prevention practitioners. The toolkit is a project of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies.

CEHS Student Research and Creative Activity Fair Nov. 14

CEHS undergraduate and graduate students will share their work with fellow students, faculty and other educators and community members Saturday, Nov. 14 at Teachers College Hall and the Henzlik Hub. Other UNL students and recent alums who have engaged in the study of education and/or human sciences have also been invited to share.

The aim of the conference is to give students an opportunity to showcase their work and dialogue with peers and mentors about important issues in education and the human sciences.

Major CEHS initiative invests in early childhood

Responding to changing demographics and a growing population of young at-risk children, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln today announced a strategic initiative to strengthen support for early childhood development in Nebraska.

Chancellor Harvey Perlman, Dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences Marjorie Kostelnik, Lt. Gov. Mike Foley and others shared the plans at the Van Brunt Visitors Center.

Sheridan to chair chancellor search committee

Susan Sheridan, George Holmes University Professor of Educational Psychology, has been named chair of the advisory committee assisting with the search for UNL's next chancellor.

The committee is working with professional search firm Isaacson, Miller to identify, recruit and screen potential candidates to succeed current Chancellor Harvey Perlman, who is stepping down next year.
