Kristy Weissling named SECD Interim Department Chair

As 2023 begins, SECD is welcoming a new interim department chair, professor of practice Kristy Weissling. Weissling takes over for Steven Barlow who is returning to his faculty position in the department as the Corwin Moore Professor and director of the Communication Neuroscience Laboratories.

December 2022 Graduate Q-&-As

Nine SECD students who are graduating with their bachelor's degrees shared Q-&-As ahead of the Dec. 17 commencement ceremony. Amanda Cardey, Sydney Huls, Riha Karney, Sarah Rogoz and Kaylie Trumble are earning degrees in Communication Sciences and Disorders, while Jessilyn Coe, Alexis Goodenberger, Maddy Nelson and Julia Raffel are completing dual degrees in Elementary Education and Special Education (K-6).

Hailey Droge, Kelsey Zach among students being recognized as Chancellor's Scholars

Hailey Droge and Kelsey Zach, both students in SECD, are among the 13 Husker graduates who will be recognized as Chancellor's Scholars during the undergraduate commencement ceremony Dec. 17. Students are named Chancellor's Scholars for maintaining perfect 4.0 GPAs on all collegiate work.

Emma Spence, a sophomore majoring in communication sciences and disorders and Husker gymnast, helped Team Canada to a historic bronze medal at the World Gymnastics Championships earlier this fall.

SECD faculty, students set to present at ASHA Convention Nov. 17-19

Several faculty and students from SECD are scheduled to be part of 15 virtual and in-person presentations during the annual American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Convention. This year’s convention is being held Nov. 17-19 in New Orleans, with a virtual library of pre-recorded sessions available Nov. 10-28.

When Sara Reuss moved to Nebraska as a junior in high school, her mother arranged for her and her brothers to volunteer at the Nebraska Center for the Education of Children Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired (NCECBVI). Reuss continued to volunteer throughout college while earning her bachelor’s degree in anthropology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
