Jennifer Sturgeon joined the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders as an assistant professor of practice and coordinator of the early childhood special education program in August 2022. She served as the ECSE program coordinator on an interim basis from January-August 2022.
Sturgeon gained eight years of special education experience as an early childhood special education teacher and early intervention supervisor in the Omaha Public Schools system after beginning her career as a kindergarten teacher. She then spent three years as the executive director of Omaha Early Learning Center, Inc., from 2017-20, and has been a professional trainer/consultant for Teaching Strategies, L.L.C., since 2019. Sturgeon also served as a Master of Education instructor for Northwestern College from 2020-22.
She earned her Ed.D. in educational leadership from Nebraska in 2019. Sturgeon also holds bachelor’s (early childhood education unified) and master’s (educational administration) degrees from Nebraska, as well as a master’s degree in early childhood education from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She has Nebraska Professional Administrative Certificates as a Superintendent Pre-K-12 and Principal Pre-K to grade 8, and teaching certificates as a Nebraska Special Education Generalist Pre-K to grade 8 and Nebraska Early Childhood Unified pre-primary to grade 3.
