Initial Teaching Certification Only

Prospective students who pursue initial teaching certification in the following endorsement areas are encouraged but not required to pursue a graduate degree, such as a Master’s, Ph.D., Ed.D., or a Graduate Certificate:

M.A. leading to Initial Teaching Certification

Prospective students may apply for a Master of Arts degree leading to Initial Teaching Certification in the following endorsement areas:

When applying, students must complete two applications—one for initial teaching certification and one for the Master of Arts program. Although the coursework is grouped together, the initial teaching certification and M.A. are recognized as two separate programs by the University.

Added Teaching Endorsements

Teachers who are already certified to teach may pursue an additional teaching endorsement. In accordance with Rule 24 of the State of Nebraska Department of Education, a supplemental endorsement means meeting the requirements set forth in the content area of the endorsement. Students who are seeking an additional endorsement must also be enrolled in a graduate degree program, such as a Master’s, Ph.D., Ed.D., or a Graduate Certificate.
