Victoria Molfese retiring from UNL

Molfese leaving a legacy of learning

Victoria Molfese, Chancellor Professor and Co-Director of the Early Development and Learning Lab, is retiring from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Molfese is nationally recognized as an expert in the development of language, reading, and math skills during early childhood. Her research at the university has focused mostly on how sleep influences behavior and learning and teacher/child relationships and the way these can affect performance.

CYAF family financial planning degree top ranked

The family financial planning online master’s degree offered through the Department of Child, Youth and Family Studies and Great Plains IDEA, has been ranked No. 1 nationally by Top Accounting Degrees. The ranking was based in part on student/faculty ratio, average graduate tuition rate, flexible course offerings, affiliation with professional certification, and online student resources such as advising and tech support.

USDA entrepreneurship grant invests in rural Nebraska

A University of Nebraska–Lincoln project to support youth entrepreneurship in rural communities has received support from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The project, which partners high school students with rural business owners, will be led by Surin Kim, assistant professor in Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design and a Nebraska Extension entrepreneurship specialist. Kim will serve as principal investigator and research the economic and social underpinnings of rural flight of youth and young adults in Nebraska.

De Guzman, Edwards and Brown offer new book about families living apart

Families across the world are living apart in increasing numbers. This phenomenon is challenging family cohesion and redefining family relationships. A new book edited by Maria Rosario de Guzman, associate professor and extension specialist in Child, Youth and Family Studies; Carolyn Pope Edwards, emeritus professor, Child, Youth and Family Studies; and Jill Brown, associate professor of psychology, Creighton University, sheds light on how distance affects families.

Graduate education programs at UNL ranked No. 40 nationally

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s graduate education program jumped three spots and is ranked No. 40 in the 2019 U.S. News & World Report national rankings that were announced March 20.

Nebraska graduate education programs are housed in the College of Education and Human Sciences. Programs evaluated for this ranking include master’s, specialist, Ph.D. and Ed.D. degrees in the departments of Child, Youth and Family Studies; Educational Administration; Educational Psychology; Special Education and Communication Disorders; and Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education.

Lisa King, staff assistant in Child, Youth and Family Studies, has been named the CEHS February Staff Star Award recipient by the CEHS Staff Council. King’s thoughtfulness and concern for others was often mentioned by nominators as a quality that makes her shine.

All CEHS students, faculty, staff, alumni and others are invited to attend one of two learning and feedback sessions this Thursday, March 8 regarding the construction of a new Mabel Lee Hall.
