Admission to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Athletic Training Program (UNL ATP) is based on a competitive selection process, and meeting the admission requirements does not guarantee acceptance.
Admission to the UNL ATP involves a two-part application process. Students must begin the application process using the Athletic Training Centralized Application Service (ATCAS) website, followed by a separate application process through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Graduate Studies office.
The application period opens annually on August 1st and closes on April 1st each year. Applications submitted through ATCAS will be reviewed by UNL ATP Admissions Committee in the order they are received using a comprehensive evaluation process. Candidates whose applications meet the admission requirement criteria listed below (course prerequisites, minimum overall GPA, and supporting documentation) will be evaluated by the UNL ATP Admission Committee. This committee uses a comprehensive evaluation process that involves reviewing the candidates submitted documentation through ATCAS that includes a review of academic work and experiences, required prerequisite coursework, letters of recommendation, personal statement that indicates career goals and dedication to the profession of athletic training. Candidates that meet the minimum admission requirement criteria will be invited for a web-based (e.g., Zoom) candidate interview with the UNL ATP Admission Committee. The interview will be evaluated as part of the UNL ATP admissions process. Applications failing to meet the minimum admission requirement criteria will not be eligible for an interview.
All recruitment and admission decisions are based on UNL ATP's core principles and adhere to a non-discrimination policy. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, age, disability, religion, sex, national origin, marital status, veteran status, political affiliation, sexual orientation, or any other individual characteristics. Admissions are determined solely by qualifications for the program, including quality of performance and conduct, in accordance with university policies, rules, and applicable laws.
Prospective applicants who have completed their undergraduate degree or are in their final year of undergraduate studies are encouraged to start the application process on ATCAS at the earliest opportunity. Admission to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln does not ensure admission into the UNL ATP.
While efforts have been made to accurately outline all program and course prerequisites, please consult the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Academic Catalog (online at: go.unl.edu/v3sq) for official program courses and university prerequisites.
The College of Education and Human Sciences retains the authority to modify program requirements. It is recommended that students schedule regular meetings with academic advisors each semester to assess progress towards graduation.
